You know how you sign up to get something for free as long as you sign up for a 30 day trial period of something else?! Usually, I do those "get your free credit report if you sign up for 30 days free of credit monitoring." Then it's something like a few hundred bucks a year if you don't cancel within the required time. I usually write down the date on my calendar, but I have been caught canceling late in the past because I simply overlooking it.

A more effective system is to use a cell phone calendar with an alarm option. Set up the calendar entry for the weekend before the cancellation should happen (or earlier). There should be an option to set the entry to alarm, so make sure to do so. Put in details like a short description, account number and the phone number that you need to call for cancellations.

When your phone alarms, it will be easy for you to call them immediately and do what you have to do!
