How to get photos from your cell phone to Flickr

Texting If you have a text messaging plan on your cell phone, then there is no reason to also be paying for picture messaging or "online picture albums" offered by your wireless providers. Instead, use Flickr, a free online photo sharing community.

With Flickr, you can easily upload pictures from your computer or cell phone, make them public or private, add descriptions, make calendars or stamps from your pictures ... and more. Best of all it's EASY to understand (thankfully) and it's FREE, although there is a paid option. The details of how to upload pictures from your cell phone to flickr are below.

  • Join Flickr.com.
  • Go to Flickr Tools.
  • Click upload by email.
  • Flickr will assign you your own email address like xxxx@photos.flickr.com. You should probably save this in your contacts so you will always have it handy.
  • On your cell, add this email address to your phone book; name it Flickr.
  • Go to your cell phone and locate the picture.
  • Select the Menu option and choose send in message.
  • Type in a description (or not) and choose Flickr from your address book.
  • Send your picture.

Flickr also gives you other options to add to your photo before sending it, e.g. "You can also use a special code to add tags before you send your email." I played around with this last night and discovered that the pictures look much better on a big screen than on the teeny tiny cell phone display.
