Recommended Freeware: QuickMenu

There are a few programs that will go with me no matter which Pocket PC I use, and QuickMenu is one of those essentials. It drastically improves the functionality of the regular Windows Mobile Start Menu by providing access to all programs via expandable sub menus.

The regular Start Menu shows recently opened items, and only allows you to access the programs folder. You them have to open the folder of the program that you want and click on the file to open it. Tedious at best.

QuickMenu shows a list of currently open programs at the top of the menu, like a Task Manager, and also has an X button with the option to close them. This is useful to see programs that you forgot to close and makes it easier to toggle between screens. Then there is a list of recently opened programs - a nice time saver.

Programs and settings open into sub-menus, so it's easier to launch the programs and access system options straight from the list. So now when I want to open GooSync for example (to sync my calender to Google Calendar), I just scroll to programs, click and then scroll to GooSync. It opens right there from the menu.

You can access the QuickMenu settings directly from the menu. Options imclude making the X-button close programs (eliminates the need for a separate program to do this), show a battery meter on the top bar ( either in percentage or as a tiny icon), use the "OK" button to close programs - oh so handy for us folks who like to keep stylus use to a minimum ... and more.

Hint: To get programs (or folders) to show up on the Menu, copy them (the .exe file or the folder) into the Windows -> Start Menu folder.

QuickMenu plays well with Windows Mobile 6. Here's the Download Link.
